The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has reaffirmed her ministry’s commitment to creating more platforms that empower young Ghanaians to contribute to national development through arts and culture.
Speaking at the National Heritage Photo Competition Awards held at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, the Minister emphasized the government’s dedication to advancing the creative sector under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama
“The NDC government under His Excellency John Dramani Mahama is committed to creating more platforms that empower young Ghanaians to contribute to national development through arts and culture,” she says.
The National Heritage Photo Competition, an initiative by the Ministry in collaboration with UNESCO, provides young people under the age of 25 the opportunity to showcase Ghana’s rich heritage through compelling visual storytelling.
The awards ceremony, which marked the climax of the competition, featured captivating performances by the Ghana Dance Ensemble, an address by UNESCO Country Director Edmond Mukala, a keynote address by the sector minister and a presentation of awards to the winners.
The event attracted several dignitaries, including representatives from the embassies of Barbados, Togo, and Mali, as well as the former Prime Minister of Tunisia, among other notable guests.
Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie expressed her appreciation to the event’s partners, organizers and stakeholders, stressing that the Ministry remains committed to using creative mediums such as dance and art, and now photography to preserve and promote the Ghanaian culture and identity.
