Gov Alia Warns Commissioners Against Sharing State Resources For Private Interest

September 01, (THEWILL) — Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has warned newly appointed Commissioners against sharing the state resources for their personal interest.

The governor, who charged them to serve with loyalty, accountability and close ties to their communities, also tasked them to be open in all that they do to earn public confidence for the administration.

The inauguration, held at the Old Banquet Hall of Government House, Makurdi, was attended by political leaders, traditional rulers, Heads of Parastatals, families, and associates of the appointees.

According to the governor, Commissioners were carefully selected from across the state to strengthen his administration’s development agenda, noting that with the government already in the second half of its first term, the journey ahead would require greater commitment.

“The appointees were chosen because of their proven understanding of governance, transparency, and discipline. Much was expected from you”, he stated.

The governor urged them to maintain strong links with their local communities, serve as spokespersons of government programmes, and uphold confidentiality in state matters, reminding them of the oath they had taken to protect the Nigerian Constitution and to place public interest above personal considerations.

He emphasised that his administration was people-centred and not driven by patronage politics, adding that government was focused on policies that directly improved the lives of ordinary citizens, such as market women, children, workers, and pensioners.

Dismissing insinuations that he intended to replace Dr Sam Odeh as Deputy governor ahead of 2027, the governor reaffirmed his confidence in Odeh, describing him as a dependable and tested partner, who possessed the knowledge, discipline, and people-oriented qualities required for effective governance.

Speaking on behalf of the new Commissioners, Hon. Dennis Iyaighgba, expressed gratitude to the governor for the trust reposed in them, assuring that the appointees were prepared to add value to the administration by working with diligence, creativity, and integrity.

Iyaighgba said their collective goal would be to reposition their ministries and deliver tangible results that improve the lives of the people.

The new commissioners inaugurated include Dr Ortese Yanmar, Dr Fredrick Ikyaan, Michael Oglegba, Tiza Imojime, Alumo Orpin, Ugwu Odoh, Kunde Aondowase, Kwaghgba Amande, Joseph Ter Jir, James Dwem.

Others are Dr Ornguga Yangien, Theresa Odachi Ikwue, Dr Benjamin Ashaver, Dr Adamu Margaret Ijaguwa, Dr Peter Oboh Egbodo, Dennis Iyaighgba, and Dr Paul Ejeh Ogwuche.
