A former ally of late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Buba Galadima has claimed that friends of the Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf are pressuring him to abandon the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Speaking in an interview on Trust TV, Galadima alleged that the governor’s friends began the push three months into his tenure as governor.
The NNPP chieftain hinted that Yusuf has stayed long enough with Kwankwaso.
He said, “Abba was declared as the governor of Kano, and a lot of his friends, three months into his tenure, were pushing him to abandon Kwankwaso. They abandoned Kwankwaso, and for me personally, I think he has stayed long enough with Kwankwaso.”
This comes as Yusuf officially left the NNPP amid speculations that he may defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Meanwhile, Yusuf, is set to constitute a committee to formally inform the leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, of his decision to alongside several members of the National and State Houses of Assembly.
A source familiar with the development told Daily Nigerian that the decision was reached during a nocturnal closed-door meeting held on Thursday.
According to the source, members of the Kano State House of Assembly had urged the governor to personally meet Kwankwaso, whom they described as his political godfather, to formally communicate his decision to dump the NNPP for the All Progressives Congress (NNPP).
Out of deference, the lawmakers reportedly insisted that such a move was necessary before any public announcement.
However, the governor was said to have declined a personal visit, proposing instead that the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Jibrin Falgore, should lead a delegation to Kwankwaso on his behalf.Sources disclosed that Falgore, sensing the political sensitivity of the matter, politely declined the governor’s directive.
“The Speaker said he could not personally face Kwankwaso with such an issue,” one of the insiders said.
Insiders further revealed that the governor has now resolved to set up a broader committee comprising members of the National Assembly, the State House of Assembly and some cabinet members to visit Kwankwaso on Friday.
The delegation is expected to officially convey the governor’s decision and that of other defecting lawmakers.
The source added that Governor Yusuf is expected to formally announce his resignation from the NNPP a day after the delegation meets with Kwankwaso.
