The Volunteer Media Advocacy for Accountable Leadership has applauded the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, for what it describes as a remarkably transparent, inclusive, and service-driven first year in office.
In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Sir Augustine Aminu, the group said Grace Ike’s administration has set a new benchmark in union leadership, demonstrating accountability and steadfast commitment to the welfare and professional growth of journalists in the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the statement, the Grace Ike–led executive has, within one year, “restored trust in the council’s governance structure, ensured prudent management of resources, revived stakeholder engagement, and promoted unity among journalists across the FCT.”
Sir Aminu noted that the administration’s open-door policy, regular financial disclosures, and clear communication channels have enhanced confidence among members and strengthened internal democracy within the union.
“Comrade Grace Ike has shown, through her actions, that leadership is about transparency, integrity, and service to the people. Her first year in office reflects a commitment to accountability and a vision for a more vibrant, ethical, and empowered media community in the FCT,” the statement read.
The group further commended the chairman for initiating developmental projects, prioritizing capacity-building programmes, and championing the protection of press freedom and journalists’ rights.
While congratulating her on the milestone, Volunteer Media Advocacy for Accountable Leadership urged her to sustain the momentum and continue to uphold the values that have earned her widespread respect within and outside the journalism profession.
“We celebrate this exemplary one-year stewardship and encourage Comrade Grace Ike to remain focused on her mission of repositioning the FCT NUJ. Her leadership has become a model for transparent union administration across the country,” Sir Augustine Aminu stated.
