He Changed When I Wouldn’t Give Him The Cookie

Weddings have a way of filling you with love hormones. I don’t know how to call them but watching two people making a commitment to love each other forever will make you desire to have a beautiful love story of your own. Maybe that’s why when strangers meet at weddings, they bond easily. It was like that with me and Kwei when we met at one of my friends’ wedding six months ago.

We had just met but we got along as well as two old friends. We spoke freely and laughed easily with each other. At the end of the wedding, he gave me his phone and said, Dial your number on it. I want to keep talking to you.”

I enjoyed talking to him. Getting to know him felt like the slow unravelling of a kindred spirit. We had so much in common. The connection from cosmic. Nonetheless, I have been burned in the past. So though the feeling with him was good, I was sure to keep my emotions in check.

Three months down the line, he asked me to be his girlfriend. “It’s about time,” I thought as I said yes. We did a lot of fun things together. The only thing I couldn’t do was give my body to him. I can’t explain it but something always felt off whenever he wanted us to get intimate. So I always turned him down.

Last month, during the Homowo festival, I went over to his place. He was all hot and bothered. He was all over me, trying to go all the way. I tried but in the end, I pushed him away and said, “I can’t. I am sorry.”

He said No problem. That was the beginning of our problems. He reduced communication with me when I left his place—fewer calls, no replies to my messages, and sometimes when I called, his line would be busy the whole day.

Eventually, I stopped trying to reach out to him.

Is Bride Price Still Relevant in Modern Marriages?

Just yesterday, he called me. When I picked up he said, “Can we meet up anytime soon? I miss you.”

Truth be told, I really love this guy, but I don’t think we can go back to what we were. His behaviour has changed the way I see our relationship. I want to know if I am overreacting or if I am doing the right thing by refusing to go back to him.
