He Gave His “Girlfriend” The Phone I Bought For Him

When our relationship began, Damien opened a shop for me. We both agreed that we would run the business together. But after setting it up, he suddenly restricted me from going there. According to him, “I don’t want my girlfriend to be at the shop for men to make advances at her.”

After I kept pressuring him, he said he already employed a salesgirl so he didn’t need me there. I was surprised he was hiring people, considering that the business (a POS, gaming, and phone charging centre) was just starting.

Out of stubbornness, I went there. I met the salesgirl. Within a few seconds, he appeared at the shop. While he was standing with me, I saw the girl giving him suspicious looks. She had frowned and was pouting. I wasn’t happy but I didn’t say anything.

I was staying with him for weeks but after what I saw at the shop, I left the next day. The day he came to my place to settle our issues, the girl texted him around 11 p.m., asking how he was doing. I asked why she would text at that hour if nothing was going on. He dismissed my concerns, saying she made a mistake at the shop and maybe that’s why she was texting him. I didn’t buy it but I let it slide.

In March this year, someone set him up at his workplace. It cost us over ₦500,000 to settle the matter. I contributed ₦150,000, while he raised the rest. I was by his side through everything. I fed him, paid for subscriptions, and handled small expenses when he eventually lost his job.

He kept hustling until his fortunes changed. His blockchain money (about $2000) that had been locked for two years was finally released. He called me, sounding excited, as he broke the news. I was happy for him.

To make sure the money doesn’t go to waste, he used part of it to complete 80% of his family’s house. Then he used the rest to set up another shop. This time around too we agreed to run the shop together.

However, he changed again. He became distant, neglected my needs, and was constantly rude to me. Every little thing, he would raise his voice and tell me, “I am the man of the house.”

Oh, but that’s not the worst of it. When he was down, his phone got spoiled. I didn’t have much money but I was able to raise enough money to buy an iPhone 6 for him.

Two weeks after he got money, I saw him using an iPhone 13. I only had a problem when I saw that his salesgirl posted a mirror selfie on WhatsApp holding a phone that looked exactly like the one I had bought for him.

When I asked him about the phone, he said it was at his shop. The next day he even snapped a picture of the phone and sent it to me. Strangely, when I checked the salesgirl’s WhatsApp again, her account was gone—it showed “invite,” like she was not active on WhatsApp.

Now I’m left connecting the dots:

• He restricted me from the shop after hiring her.

• She was texting him at night.

• She had a phone identical to the one I bought him.

• Suddenly her WhatsApp account disappeared the same day I confronted him.

Is Bride Price Still Relevant in Modern Marriages?

I don’t know if I’m overthinking or if everything is clear already. I want to believe what I have seen but he keeps denying all my accusations.

If you were in my shoes, would you forgive him if he admitted to giving her the phone?
