President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona Ogbagba II, describing him as more than a traditional ruler.

In a message posted on his official X handle on Sunday, Tinubu reflected on the personal and national loss occasioned by Oba Adetona’s passing, alongside that of his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari, both of whom died within hours of each other.

“Last Sunday, within hours, I lost two men I held in the highest esteem… Kabiyesi was more than a royal father to me,” Tinubu wrote.

He hailed the monarch’s over 65 years on the throne, calling his reign one of “rare dignity, candour, and courage,” and praised his unwavering commitment to the people and to truth.

President Tinubu is currently in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, to attend the monarch’s eighth-day Fidau prayers, where he is expected to join other dignitaries, royal families, and community leaders in honouring the revered king’s life and legacy.

“Oba Adetona’s demise has left an enormous void within the traditional institutions in Yorubaland and Nigeria in general. His voice, leadership, and generosity will echo far beyond Ijebuland.

“May Almighty Allah grant him Aljannah Firdaus and comfort all who mourn him,” Tinubu said.
