E ight people were killed on Sunday night when over 50 armed bandits attacked three communities—Kaiwa, Gebbe and Gelawu—in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
A resident, Saidu Yakubu, told our correspondent that the attackers arrived in large numbers on motorcycles and launched the assault simultaneously.
He said residents attempted to flee into nearby bushes upon sighting the bandits, but some were unable to escape.

“We saw them riding into our community, and immediately, people began to run for safety, but some were not so lucky. They killed more than eight people and abducted an unspecified number of others.

Another resident, Abdullahi Hussaini, described the attack on Gebbe as unprecedented, noting that the community had not witnessed such a large-scale assault in recent years.
He added that many residents remained displaced, making it difficult to ascertain the exact number of casualties from the Sunday night attack.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi State Command, SP Bashir Usman, said security agencies had launched coordinated operations in the affected areas.
He disclosed that seven persons were initially confirmed dead across Gebbe, Kaiwa and Gelawu, while one additional victim later died while receiving treatment.
