I stand in solidarity with Adamawa flood victims – Peter Obi

The 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party has expressed sadness over the rising death toll from the flooding that ravaged the streets of Yola, Adamawa State.

Highlighting the importance of disaster preparedness, Obi said every government needs to put measures in place to address natural disasters.

In a post made on X, the former Anambra State governor said the frequency at which disasters occur in Nigeria and the needless bloodletting across states is worrisome.

Sympathising with the victims of the flood and families of those who lost their loved ones, Obi said the incident is a painful reminder of the urgent need for serious investment in disaster preparedness, environmental protection, and urban infrastructure across Nigeria.

“I acknowledge and commend the prompt action taken by the State Government of Adamawa, the Police Command and other agencies of Government in the rescue efforts. However, disasters must no longer be reduced to passing headlines. It is time for our government, at all levels, to embrace a proactive approach. Investing in effective drainage infrastructure to protect our people and preserve their means of livelihood.

“I stand in solidarity with the affected communities in Adamawa State and call on NEMA and other relevant authorities to move swiftly to provide relief and long-term support for the victims.

“May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may healing come swiftly to the injured and displaced,” Obi wrote.
