IBBUL Emerges Winner As First Bago Inter-Collegiate Sports Festival Ends In Minna

The first Niger State inter-Collegiate Sports Festival has ended in Minna, the state capital with the first state owned university, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU) Lapai emerging overall winner with 34 medals.

While IBBU, Lapai got 14 golds, 10 silver and 10 bronze, Abdulkhadir Kure University (AKU), Minna came 2nd, while the Umaru Sanda College of Education, Minna clinched the 3rd position.

Presenting the medals to the winners, the Chairman Niger State Sports Commission (NSSC), Danjuma Abdul Masu congratulated IBBU, Lapai for emerging overall winner and encouraged other tertiary institutions in the state to brace up for next year’s tournament.

A total of thirteen schools registered, but only eleven participated during the maiden week-long inter-Collegiate Sports encounter which featured nine sporting events.

Masu told guests at the Bako Kontagora memorial stadium, Minna, including representative of Governor Bago after the finals of the football match which ended 1-0 in favour of IBBU, Lapai that the annual sports festival aimed at discovering hidden talents in tertiary institutions in the state have come to stay.

Newgate University Minna, the first privately owned university came fourth in medals table with a total of 15 medals, 8 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze, while Niger State Polytechnic, Zungeru came 5th.

Abdul Masu attributed successful hosting of the state’s maiden sports festival to hardwork, dedication, resilient in the spirit of sportsmanship of unity and progress among key stakeholders including staff of the Commission.

Speaking shortly after receiving the year 2027 hosting insignia, the Vice Chancellor of IBBU, Lapai, Prof Hadi Suleiman expressed satisfaction with the performance of his students, and commended the foresight of the NSSC to promote sports in the state.
