The Imo State House of Assembly has passed the 2026 appropriation bill presented to it by Governor Hope Uzodimma into law.
The passed budget, containing the sum of
N1,409,514,914,710.04 for the 2026 fiscal year was passed after lawmakers accorded it accelerated consideration.
Leading the debate for its second reading on the Appropriation Bill ahead of its passage, the Majority Leader, Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi (Owerri West) maintained the lawmakers owed the state a duty by passing swiftly passing the budget to accelerate governance delivery.
“The governor has demonstrated how passionate he is towards the well-being of Ndi Imo. All we owe him now is unfettered love and support anyway we can. Passing the budget will accelerate more goodies that will keep Imolites continuously happy,” Onyemaechi said.
The Chairman, House Committee on Budget and Appropriation, Hon Chisom Ojukwu (Nkwerre), stated that the Imo 10th Assembly would again make history by partnering with the executive arm towards ensuring good governance.
He hailed Governor Uzodimma for committing 83 per cent of the budget to expenditure, describing it as historic while also commending the governor for allocating over N13billion to the agriculture sector. “I can confidently say that Imo State will soon be the food basket of the south East”.
For his part, Hon Okechukwu Udeze (Ideato North),
noted that Uzodimma has lived up to expectations of the people in protecting the lives and property of the Imo State people.
“The governor has positioned Imo for development. Imo has risen. The 3-R government has done exceptionally well. Passing the budget means express permission for the governor to do more”, he assured.
The passage of the budget followed its second reading following which it was thereafter passed into law by the House.
The bill now awaits the assent of Governor Uzodimma.
