INEC issues official notice for Anambra guber election, sets date for November 8

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally issued a notice for the conduct of the Anambra State governorship election, scheduled to hold on Saturday, November 8, 2025, in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The Commission’s Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs. Ugomma Lechukwu, announced this during a press briefing on Sunday in Awka, stating that the move was in compliance with the law governing electoral timelines and procedures.

“The INEC notice of poll is in accordance with sections of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended). Notice is hereby given that election to the office of the governorship election shall be held on November 8, 2025,” she said.

Lechukwu explained that voting would commence at 8:30 a.m. and close at 2:30 p.m., stressing that only registered voters would be allowed to cast their ballots at the polling units where they were originally registered.

According to her, “only persons whose names appear on the register of voters and have a valid voter’s card are eligible to vote on that day.”

Providing further details, the INEC spokesperson disclosed that no fewer than 16 candidates would contest the Anambra governorship election. Out of these, two candidates are female, while 14 are male, reflecting modest but increasing gender representation in the state’s political space.

The issuance of the official notice marks the formal commencement of the election timetable in Anambra, paving the way for political campaigns, voter education, and preparations by both parties and candidates ahead of the November poll.
