Jos traders protest as gov’t seals off over 300 shops

Traders around Yankwalabe-Yanrobobi, on Thursday, protested the sealing of their shops by the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB).

The protesters said they woke up in the morning to see their business centers sealed by the management of the board, calling on Governor Caleb Mutfwang to intervene.

The traders claimed that they neither knew the reason nor were informed by the board why the shops were sealed.

Cecilia Patrick, who sells food, lamented, “I sell food here every day, and to my surprise, when I came this morning, my shop was sealed. I don’t know anything. I’m not a troublemaker. Even if, for example, someone committed an offence, that shouldn’t affect me because I only mind my business. Please, they should allow me to continue my business because it’s my only means of livelihood.”

Blessing Moses, another trader, said, “The sealing of the shops has really affected us because this is where we get our daily income but they just come and close the shops without us doing anything. We call on the governor to do something about it.”
