JUST IN: INEC declares APC’s Bago winner of Niger governorship election

Umar Mohammed Bago of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Niger State.

He was declared winner by INEC’s Returning Officer in the State,  Prof. Clement Allawa.

Bago won in 20 of the 25 Local Government Areas of Niger State, polling 469,896 votes to defeat Isah Liman Kantigi of the Peoples Democratic Party, who got 387, 476 votes.

Yahaya Mohammed of the New Nigerian People’s Party, polled 3, 378 votes to come third while Khadijat Abdulahi of the All Progressive Grand Alliance polled 1, 746 votes.

In announcing the result, the INEC’s Returning Officer said: “I, Professor Clement Allawa, hereby certify that I am the Returning Officer for the 2023 governorship election that was contested on March 18, 2023.

“I declare that Umar Mohammed Bago of the APC having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner of the 2023 governorship election in Niger State.”

Total number of accredited voters at the election was 899, 488 while the number of votes cast stands at 889, 956.
