A tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Monday when a two-storey building collapsed in Lagos, trapping several occupants beneath.

According to reports, the collapse happened at No. 54, Cole Street, Cemetery Bus Stop, near UBA Bank, in the Oyingbo area of Lagos.

According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS), a distress call was received at about 12:20 a.m., and emergency responders from the Sari Iganmu Fire Station arrived on site at 12:29 a.m. to commence rescue operations.

The LSFRS Controller General, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed that 15 people, comprising seven men, four women, and four children, were rescued with varying injuries.

She added that the victims have been taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Ebute Meta and the General Hospital on Lagos Island for medical attention.

Preliminary findings indicated that the building, which had earlier been declared structurally unsafe, collapsed while still occupied by tenants.

Rescue operations are still ongoing as emergency officials continue to search for additional victims feared trapped under the wreckage.

Adeseye noted that the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, working with other emergency response agencies, remains fully deployed to ensure that all affected individuals are rescued and accounted for.
