Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has removed Abdulmumin Jibrin-Kofa, a sitting House of Representatives member, from its ranks due to claims of undermining the party’s goals.
The state NNPP chairman, Hashim Sulaiman-Dungurawa, shared this update during a Saturday press briefing in Kano.
He explained that the expulsion stemmed from Jibrin-Kofa’s ongoing public criticisms of the party and its top officials through various media appearances.
Labeling the politician as a “weak politician” whose victories relied heavily on the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP’s backing rather than his own merits, Dungurawa remarked, “If he is truly strong politically, he would have won his election on APC platform, but he failed.
“It was when he joined NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he became a House of Reps member. Now he is deceiving himself thinking he is strong.”
Dungurawa added that a reconciliation team was formed earlier after Jibrin-Kofa’s contentious Channels Television interview, but the lawmaker’s follow-up public statements showed he had gone too far. “Instead of dialogue, he went further to work against our interest, openly declaring loyalty outside the party. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add,” the chairman stated.
In addition, the chairman highlighted Jibrin-Kofa’s failure to settle required party fees, promising to pursue recovery through the courts.
“We will drag him to court to recover what he owes the party. It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so,” he affirmed.
Addressing rumors of a possible switch back to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dungurawa dismissed any potential impact, emphasizing unity. “Politics is about groups and coalitions, and Kwankwasiyya remains solidly behind our leader, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.”
