Kano Senator praises police over arrest of suspects in gruesome murder

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I Jibrin, has commended the Kano State Police Command for arresting three suspects linked to the brutal murder of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano ¹.

In a statement, Senator Barau described the arrest as “soothing news” and urged the police to ensure a thorough investigation and speedy trial for the suspects. The suspects, identified as Umar Auwalu, 23, Isyaku Yakubu, 40, and Yakubu Abdulaziz, 21, were arrested during a sting operation ² ¹.

Senator Barau expressed his shock and sadness over the incident, calling it “barbaric and beyond comprehension”. He prayed for the victims to be granted Aljannatul Firdaus and for the strength of the bereaved family ¹.

The police spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, revealed that the suspects confessed to the crime, with Auwalu admitting to leading the group. Items recovered from the suspects include blood-stained clothes, mobile phones, a cutlass, and cash ² ³.

The Kano State Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to bringing perpetrators to justice. Governor Abba Yusuf has also condemned the killing, directing the police to ensure the suspects face the full weight of the law ⁴ ¹.

The incident has sparked outrage and calls for improved security in Kano. Senator Barau has pledged to support the police in their efforts to maintain law and order ¹ ⁵.

The police investigation is ongoing, with efforts to apprehend any other accomplices ².
