The Kano State Commissioner for Transportation, Ibrahim Ali Namadi, has resigned hours after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf received the report of the investigative committee probing his involvement in the controversial bail of a suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu.

According to the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Commissioner said his decision was made in the overriding public interest, considering the sensitivity of the matter.

“As a member of an administration that has consistently championed the fight against the sale and consumption of illicit drugs, it behoves me to take this step—painful as it may be.”

“While I maintain my innocence, I cannot ignore the weight of public perception and the need to protect the values we have collectively built,” he was quoted to have said.

Namadi expressed appreciation to Governor Yusuf for the opportunity to serve and reaffirmed his loyalty to the administration’s principles of good governance and responsible leadership.

“I must, as a good citizen, strive to protect, preserve, and uphold the trust and vision we have worked so hard to instil in our dear state. I remain loyal to the ideals that brought this administration into office,” he added.

Governor Yusuf accepted the resignation and wished the former Commissioner success in his future endeavours.

He reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on drug-related crimes and its continued commitment to justice and discipline.

The governor also advised all political appointees to act with caution on sensitive matters and always seek clearance from appropriate authorities before engaging in actions of public interest.

Secretary to the State Government, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, had presented the probe report during a formal meeting at the Government House.

He outlined key findings based on the committee’s review of material evidence and witness testimonies.

Governor Yusuf commended the committee for its professionalism, objectivity, and dedication to truth, assuring that its recommendations would be thoroughly reviewed and implemented in line with due process and public interest.

Key findings of the investigative committe involve voluntary surety application as the Commissioner voluntarily applied to serve as surety for the defendant on July 18, 2025; he submitted an affidavit confirming his position as a serving Commissioner and pledged to comply with all bail conditions; the Commissioner was aware of the court’s bail conditions, which required a serving Commissioner to stand as surety and he failed to exercise adequate caution before taking the decision, despite the gravity of the charges.

Other findings by the committee found that Namadi was aware of the drug-related nature of the accusations;he acted in contradiction to the Kano State Government’s strict stance against drug trafficking and abuse; the committee established there was no evidence of prior acquaintance between Namadi and the defendant; there was no evidence of financial or material inducement influencing his action and he did not pay the reported ₦5 million bail sum, which was mentioned only in the defendant’s affidavit.
