Katsina govt set to train 18,000 teachers, distributes 20,000 tablets to boost education

The Katsina State Government has rolled out education reform initiative with the launch of a training program for 18,000 teachers and the distribution of 20,000 digital tablets to enhance classroom delivery and improve learning outcomes across the state.

The initiative was unveiled at a ceremony held at the Local Government Service Commission in the state, where Faruq Lawal Jobe, Deputy Governor Malam , standing in for Governor Dikko Umar Radda, outlined the administration’s vision for transforming education.

According to him, the government is investing in critical areas that directly affect the quality of education, including the provision of 30,000 uniforms to less privileged children, specialized teaching aids for schools serving the blind and deaf, installation of CCTV cameras in 130 schools to boost security, and the distribution of 70 motorcycles to school monitoring officers to strengthen supervision in rural communities.

“These are not just statistics but a strategic investment in the future of our children. By equipping teachers with modern tools and the necessary training, we are aligning our educational system with global standards to prepare our students for 21st-century competitiveness”, Jobe said.

Zainab Musawa, Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, described the launch as “a significant milestone in restoring the glory of education in Katsina State.”

She commended the World Bank, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), and other partners for their collaboration, stressing the state’s commitment to continuous teacher empowerment and capacity building.

Binta State, Project Coordinator of the Transforming Education System at State Levels (TESS) program, explained that the scheme is being implemented in partnership with the World Bank and the Federal Government.

She noted that 90 master trainers, who had undergone advanced training, will lead the step-down sessions for 18,000 teachers. Each teacher will also receive a preloaded tablet containing lesson plans and digital teaching resources to aid classroom delivery.

Rakiya Shehu, Chairperson of the Katsina State Teachers’ Association, welcomed the initiative, urging teachers, parents, and community leaders to support the program to ensure its sustainability and long-term impact.

According to her, Radda’s administration has also established three model schools to serve as talent development hubs, recruited over 7,000 teachers, and commenced the renovation of hundreds of schools across the state as part of its broader reform agenda.

The event drew top dignitaries, including the Chief Judge of Katsina State, Justice Musa Danladi; Commissioner for Higher, Technical and Vocational Education; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Ummulkhairi Ahmed Bawa; Chairman of SUBEB, Kabir Magaji; senior government officials; Salisu Mamman Kadandani, CEO of Continental Computers; and top security officers, among others.
