ABUJA – The Kebbi State Caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the National Assembly has dismissed as “false, mischievous and politically driven” a petition written by former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, alleging that Governor Nasir Idris is involved in importing political thugs, recruiting foreign mercenaries and engaging in secret arms deals.
Speaking to journalists at the National Assembly in Abuja on Friday, the Caucus said the petition, dated September 10, 2025, was a calculated attempt to malign the governor’s reputation and destabilize the relative peace and development currently enjoyed in the state.
In a statement jointly signed under the platform of the Kebbi APC National Assembly Caucus, the lawmakers emphasized that Kebbi continues to rank among the most peaceful states in the country, attributing this to the governor’s heavy investment in security infrastructure and effective collaboration with security agencies.
“The allegations are unfounded, malicious and politically motivated. They are the handiwork of Mr. Malami, who has now assumed the role of leader of an imaginary opposition in Kebbi. His aim is to discredit the progress, unity and stability that Governor Nasir Idris has entrenched in the state,” the caucus declared.
The legislators further alleged that Malami himself introduced violence into Kebbi’s political space during a recent visit to Birnin Kebbi, where he allegedly brought in youths from Sokoto, Koko and Rara who stormed the APC state secretariat, hurling stones and chanting anti-government slogans.
“That singular event exposed the real architect of political thuggery in Kebbi State. It clearly shows who is bent on causing unrest and disrupting our peaceful coexistence,” they said.
The caucus insisted that neither the state government nor the APC family had ever been associated with any form of terrorist activity, describing Malami’s claims as reckless and unbecoming of a former top law officer of the federation.
They urged security agencies not to be swayed by what they called “politically motivated distractions” but instead concentrate on addressing legitimate security challenges. They also challenged Malami to provide credible evidence to support his weighty accusations.
“We stand solidly behind our security agencies who continue to safeguard our communities and borders. They must not allow themselves to be discouraged by false narratives designed to discredit their efforts,” the statement stressed.
The lawmakers reaffirmed their loyalty to Governor Idris, pledging to sustain their support for his administration in delivering quality governance, deepening democracy, and maintaining the peace and dignity of Kebbi State.
