Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has intimated that the City Mortuary will soon be rebranded to The Nairobi Funeral Home.

This he revealed on Saturday while inspecting the progress on the facility’s facelift, where he emphasized that better services must be available and dignity restored.

“We must give our people dignity and we will,” he said on Twitter.

City Mortuary

The facility, the largest government-owned mortuary in East and Central Africa, has been undergoing renovations which will see the facility equipped with new cooling units and cold rooms. 

The facelift will also see corridors, reception areas and viewing rooms improved.

According to Public Health Chief Officer Tom Nyakaba, the facility currently has six functional coolers with a capacity to store 200 bodies.

“We have engaged a contractor to ensure all coolers are repaired and restored to excellent working condition so as to give proper and dignified services to Nairobians who have lost their loved ones,” said Nyakaba at a past media briefing.
