KENYA: DCI Arrest TikToker After Viral Clip Targeting Ruto

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a TikToker, popularly known as General Mosquito, over allegations of making inflammatory remarks.

According to the detectives, the suspect was arrested on Monday, August 4, in the Miritini area of Mombasa County, where officers believe he had been hiding.

Mosquito is accused of making a derogatory clip in which he defended and called for the release of former military officer Patrick Osoi and former prison warder Jackson Kihara, alias Cop Shakur.

The clip, which, according to the DCI, contained threats of violence and incitement against public order, quickly went viral, triggering public concern and swift action from security agencies.

During his arrest, the officers searched his residence and found several items, including two pairs of tactical combat fatigues and a notebook bearing the words: “We are going to apply guerrilla resistance tactics, Justice to all freedom heroes.”

The detectives also recovered three mobile phones, assorted documents linked to the Justice Direction Party, among other items. He was later placed in police custody, awaiting arraignment.

In the viral TikTok video, the suspect warned that should President William Ruto’s administration decline to release the two individuals, then other former servicemen would retaliate.

The suspect could be heard further claiming that he, alongside other servicemen, was ready to battle their way out with the current administration to ensure the three arrested former officers are released.

“I warn you, Ruto, and I want you to listen to me carefully. Release Patrick Osoi. Release Cop Shakur. Do not tamper with the two officers,” the suspect could be heard saying.

“We, as the forces we are tired and we will fight our own. We are not civilians whom you can threaten with a shoot-to-kill order. We have our way. Release those two comrades if you want peace,” he added.

The TikToker’s arrest came barely a week after detectives apprehended Patrick Osoi, who had formed a movement with two other former officers to fight police brutality.

Following Osoi’s arrest, he was charged with preparing to commit a felony, possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition without a certificate and other terrorism related charges.
