KENYA: Kenya Editors Guild appoints Linda Bach as new CEO, succeeding Rosalia Omungo

The Kenya Editors Guild (KEG) has appointed Linda Bach as its new chief executive officer, effective October 16, 2025 Bach previously served as a council member, representing the print media, before her elevation to the CEO role The executive council has appointed a new member to replace Bach as the print media representative Elijah Ntongai, an editor at TUKO.co.ke, has over four years of financial, business, and technology research and reporting experience, providing insights into Kenyan, African, and global trends.

Linda Bach replaces Rosalia Omungo at KEG Bach will take over the reigns from Rosalia Omungo who has led the guild for the past eight years.

The guild expressed gratitude to Omungo for her “sterling leadership,” which has seen KEG grow in influence and impact during her tenure.

“We take this opportunity to sincerely thank the outgoing CEO Rosalia Omungo for her sterling role in steering KEG for the past eight years. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors,” read the statement by KEG President Zubeidah Kananu. In the statement dated September 29, Kananu said Bach brings a wealth of experience and expertise that is expected to strengthen the guild’s mission to promote media freedom, credibility, and professionalism in Kenya.

Consequently, the council appointed Andy Kagwa of Standard Group to fill the vacant print media seat on the council.

Additionally, Millicent Awuor has been named chairperson of the Programmes Committee, a position also previously held by Bach.

Growing threats to the freedom of the press in Kenya Bach’s appointment comes on the backdrop of a trying time for the media fraternity amid growing threats to the freedom of the press in Kenya.

Multiple journalists have been injured by police officers while going about their duties during and after protests.

Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported that chaos marred Madaraka Day celebrations in Homa Bay on June 1, 2025, after police officers and unidentified goons assaulted journalists covering the national event.

The occurrence left at least four injured and several robbed despite having valid accreditation.

In a different incident, a journalist in Homa Bay, Habil Onyango, was left nursing injuries after he was abducted, assaulted, and forced to smoke bhang for exposing corruption in the county.

Onyango, a reporter with People Daily, said he was lured by an acquaintance into a Toyota Harrier, driven around for over three hours, beaten, and locked in the car’s trunk before being dumped and robbed of his camera.

Onyango linked the attack to an article he published about alleged graft at the Homa Bay County Public Service Board and revealed this was the second attempt on his life after a failed break-in at his home.
