Kerubo receives phone call from principal The grieving mum was supported by another lady as she recounted how she learned about her son’s death.

“I got a phone call this morning. I do not know what time it was. I was asked to rush to Bosongo by the school principal, Sister Matilda. I asked her what was happening, if my son was sick, but she did not explain to me. All she emphasised was that I needed to get to Bosongo. On my way there, she called me again and asked if I had arrived, but I told her not yet. I asked again what the issue was, but she did not give me an answer,” she narrated, her eyes closed and her hand resting on another lady who supported her as tears streamed down her face.

Kerubo looks for her Grade 7 son in Bosongo When Kerubo arrived, she was asked to sit by the principal, who told her that her son was being taken care of.

Kerubo sat for a moment but then insisted on seeing her son, as she was too anxious.

“I entered one room but there was no one. I entered another, and there was still no one. I entered the third, and no one bothered to tell me where my son was or what was going on. I told them I wanted to go with my son. I entered the next room and found him as if he were asleep. But he was already dead. I was told that he collapsed in school and died. Now I do not know,” she cried. Kerubo’s last conversation with her Grade 7 son Kerubo insisted that her son had not been sick at the time he collapsed and died, raising many questions about the cause of his death.

She recalled having spoken to him three days earlier after a teacher called her with one of Michael’s requests.

“He wanted a graph book. I sent money and my child told me he was well. Now someone is saying he was sick. I do not know what to believe. All I want is justice for my son. I want to know what killed him because he was not sick. He had been complaining that they were being severely punished and that he did not want to return to that school. He cried when schools reopened for the second term, but I asked him to persevere and told him I would transfer him next year. He cried a lot, not wanting to go back,” she said.
