The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has opened applications for temporary election jobs ahead of the February 26 by-elections, inviting qualified Kenyans to apply for various roles critical to the electoral process.
In a public notice, the commission announced vacancies for Support Electoral Trainers (SETs), Presiding Officers, Deputy Presiding Officers and Polling/Counting Clerks.
Interested candidates must submit their applications online through https://jobs.iebc.or.ke before the deadline on Monday, January 26, 2026.
According to the IEBC, Support Electoral Trainers will play a key role in preparing election officials by assisting in the training of presiding officers, deputy presiding officers and clerks on polling, counting and tallying procedures. Their duties will also include supervising lower-level training clusters, preparing training venues, compiling training reports and distributing election materials.
SETs will further help implement electoral training plans developed by the commission.
Applicants for the SET positions must be Kenyan citizens of high integrity, non-partisan and computer literate. They must hold a degree or diploma, demonstrate strong training and people-management skills, and remain available for the entire exercise. The IEBC also requires applicants to be residents of the constituency or ward where they apply. Successful candidates will earn Sh2,000 per day.
Presiding Officers (POs) will take charge of polling stations, overseeing station layout, security arrangements, voter flow, use of KIEMS kits and results transmission. They will officially open polling, supervise all election officials at the station and maintain regular communication with the Constituency Returning Officer.
Deputy Presiding Officers (DPOs) will support POs in carrying out these responsibilities. Both POs and DPOs must be Kenyan citizens of high integrity, non-partisan, computer literate and holders of a degree or diploma. The roles also require strong communication skills, the ability to manage people and sensitive information, availability throughout the entire exercise and residency within the constituency or ward of application. POs will earn Sh2,000 per day, while DPOs will receive Sh1,800 per day.
Polling and Counting Clerks will support the setup of polling and counting rooms, manage voter queues, verify voters, issue ballot papers and assist in sorting votes during the counting process.
Applicants for clerk positions must be Kenyan citizens of good character, have scored at least a C- in the KCSE examination and be residents of the constituency or ward in which they apply. The IEBC will pay clerks Sh1,000 per day.
The commission urged all applicants to ensure they meet the stated requirements and remain available for the full duration of the by-election exercise.
IEBC noted that the temporary positions are essential to the smooth conduct of the upcoming by-elections and form part of its broader efforts to deliver credible, transparent and efficient electoral processes across the country.
