Despite CCTV footage capturing the assault and police confirming the identity of the suspect, the officer remains at large, deepening the family’s anguish.

The incident occurred on December 22, 2025, at an entertainment joint in Umoja 1, where CCTV footage from the premises showed Migasha seated outside the establishment moments before a man approached him and engaged him briefly.

The situation quickly escalated when the man forcefully pulled Migasha to the ground and assaulted him as bystanders tried unsuccessfully to intervene.

After the attack, the assailant calmly walked away, leaving Migasha lying helpless on the ground. The motive for the assault has not been established.

Police later identified the suspect as Nicholas Njue Ireri, a military officer who is also said to be the proprietor of the entertainment joint.

What did Alphy Migasha’s autopsy reveal? According to the postmortem findings, Migasha died from a sudden blockage in a lung artery that formed as a result of severe trauma.

Government Pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor established that the blood clot developed after Migasha sustained multiple injuries during the beating, including a broken leg and damage to his chest area.

Stella Okinda, Migasha’s mother, said the medical findings confirmed what the family had believed since his death after the night of the assault.

“The post-mortem has been completed, and the doctor said Alphy sustained injuries to his ribs, chest, and back. The beating is what caused his death. He had a blood clot in his lungs, and he even vomited blood before he died. I want justice for my child,” she said, fighting back tears. She added that doctors explained to the family that Migasha had been hit on the chest, leading to internal bleeding that later caused clotting in his lungs, leg and heart.

“It was established that Alphy Migasha was beaten on the chest, causing internal bleeding. The blood clotted in his lungs, his leg, and also affected his heart. He could not breathe, and that is how he lost his life,” Okinda stated.

With Migasha’s body still lying at the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital mortuary, the family has now appealed to the Director of Criminal Investigations to intervene and ensure accountability.

“I am asking, why are the police unwilling to arrest the person who did this? I am in deep pain. This is my child who was here, and now he is gone,” lamented Okinda. How did Migori KDF officer die?
