The county government of Nandi noted it will be managed and operated by poultry farmers organised under Kochen Gei Poultry Farmers Cooperative Society.
“The flagship project of Governor Stephen Sang’s administration aims to economically empower poultry farmers, the majority of whom are women and youth, by providing a ready and better market for their chicken,” the county stated.Nandi county says slaughterhouse to improve food handlingNandi county chief officer for Cooperative Development Caroline Lagat explained that the abattoir will improve food handling and food safety.
“Consumers will also be assured of food safety through the provision of quality chicken products free from both physical and biological contaminants,” she said.Martin Shikuku Rotich, the secretary of Kochen Gei Poultry Farmers Cooperative Society said the slaughterhouse provides a beacon of hope for poultry farmers in Rift Valley county.
Makueni’s juice production factoryIn August 2022, former Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana unveiled the first line of ready-to-drink juice production from the county.
The Makueni Fruit Processing Plant produces 64,000 bottles of juice per day.
He revealed that the plant produces purified water and mango juice sold in supermarkets.
