KENYA: Ngong–Naivasha Road Flyover 85% Complete – Ruto Announces June Completion

President William Ruto has announced that the construction of the Ngong Road–Naivasha Road junction near Junction Mall is expected to be completed by June this year.

On Tuesday, February 17, following an inspection of the project, the president said the works are 85 percent complete, with the contractor now working on the final touches.

Ruto explained that the junction, part of the ongoing rehabilitation of Nairobi’s county road network, will play a vital role in modernizing the city’s transport infrastructure and reducing traffic congestion along the busy corridor.

“I’m informed by the contractor that this project will be completed by June this year. This junction has been a big problem because of the traffic congestion. This is part of the many roads that we are undertaking in the city of Nairobi,” Ruto stated.

“There are many roads that are stalled, including this one, but now we have found innovative ways of financing this project. We are designing another 80 Km of road in this city of Nairobi, as part of modernising its infrastructure,” he added.

According to the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), the project, which began in August last year, includes a four-lane flyover, upgraded junctions, pedestrian walkways, and dedicated cycling lanes.

The construction of the flyover comes as the national government intensifies efforts to develop and rehabilitate Nairobi’s transport network. Last year, KURA also began work on upgrading the Valley Road–Kenyatta Avenue route and Ngong Road.

The authority further revealed plans to rehabilitate State House Road, which runs from Nairobi’s CBD, links with major arteries like University Way, and leads directly to the State House, at an estimated cost of Ksh1.6 billion.

During the 62nd Jamhuri Day celebrations on Friday, December 12, President Ruto also announced plans to construct a new expressway to complement the Thika Superhighway.

Ruto explained that the project will begin near the existing Nairobi Expressway at the Museum Hill interchange and stretch all the way to Thika town. He added that the road’s construction will help ease persistent traffic congestion along the heavily used route, providing Nairobi residents with faster, more reliable travel.
