A massive fire broke out in a residential building in Kangemi, destroying properties worth millions and leaving several residents in the area counting losses.
The Kenya Red Cross confirmed that the incident happened along Marega Road, Bata area, on the evening of Wednesday, February 26.
Photos and videos obtained by Kenyans.co.ke show the raging inferno consuming one of the houses, and then later spreading to others,with preliminary reports indicating the fire stemmed from a gas explosion.
Neighbours and other bystanders were seen watching from a distance due to the intensity of the fire, with some making calls to security agencies on their mobile phones. Some residents estimate that more than 300 people were affected by the blaze.

Police and emergency responders have since been deployed to the scene to assist with rescue operations and contain the fire before it spread and caused further damage.
Security agencies have kick-started investigations into what exactly caused the inferno. There have been no reports of casualties or injuries.
“Incident Update. A fire outbreak has been reported along Marega Road (Bata area) in Kangemi. Emergency response teams have been notified and are on their way to the scene,” the Kenya Red Cross said.
The latest incident in Kangemi comes amid a worrying rise in fire outbreaks reported across the city since the beginning of the year, which has affected residential and business properties.
Just a month weeks ago, a fire broke out at a building along Luthuli Street on Saturday, January 10.
The building is nestled along Munyu Road at its intersection with Luthuli Avenue, part of the bus stop formerly used by Kenya Mpya buses.
The cause of the fire, which broke out just a few metres from the Ramogi building that caught fire earlier this week, and the extent of the damage are yet to be established. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
Just a week earlier, along the same street, another business building caught fire, destroying properties worth millions, on January 6.
Security agencies later revealed that an electrical fault during routine repair work was found to have triggered the devastating fire.
