Detectives from the Operations Action Team (OAT) and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) said the 49-year-old was arrested after the victim filed a complaint.
The victim, who was a charcoal dealer, reported being violently robbed in the Nguyoini area.
How was Nyeri robbery conducted? He told the detectives that he was lured by the said suspect, who posed as a customer. According to the investigative unit, Gachara told the unsuspecting victim that a friend of his required at least 20 sacks of charcoal.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that the vendor, who operates a charcoal business in Mukurweini town, was lured by the suspect under the guise of a lucrative deal. Although the trader had insufficient stock, he quickly mobilised his suppliers to meet the demand,” the DCI statement read in part. The charcoal vendor, who was eager to close the deal, managed to source the required charcoal, not knowing that he had just fallen into a trap.
