Opposition leaders have announced plans to visit former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s home in Bondo, Siaya County, to mourn him and pay tribute to his legacy.
Speaking on Saturday evening at the Ngemi ya Watho festival in Kimabu County, Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka revealed plans to travel to Bondo on Thursday, next week, in a symbolic gathering in honour of Odinga.
The Wiper leader called on Kenyans to join him in his trip to Bondo, describing the planned event as a cultural celebration of Raila’s native culture and a life well lived.
“Since we are still in the mourning period, I welcome you to join me on Thursday so that we can go and shout Jowi. Let us go to Bondo next Thursday in a style like no other,” Kalonzo said.

During his speech, Kalonzo took a swipe at President William Ruto, accusing him of hypocrisy in mourning the former Prime Minister.
He termed the Head of State’s mourning insincere, claiming that Ruto was among the politicians who strongly opposed Raila’s initiatives, including the fight for the new constitution.
“This is because there is no way William Ruto and his ilk can pretend to mourn Raila Odinga. Those of us who feel we have an inheritance in the Constitution 2010, let us go to Bondo, people are giving out cows and goats, let us also go and celebrate the culture,” Kalonzo added.
The opposition’s visit to Raila’s home in Bondo will be the first major gathering by the anti-government leaders at Odinga’s gravesite since his burial on October 19.
Kalonzo’s remarks follow reports about the former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua’s, planned visit to Bondo to pay tribute to the late Raila Odinga.
This also comes even as leaders across the country and the continent continue to visit Raila’s Opoda farm in Bondo to pay their last respects at Raila’s grave at Kang’o ka Jaramogi.
Gachagua was a no-show at Odinga’s state funeral held on Sunday, October 19, but posted a condolence message on his social media platforms after Raila’s death.
Nonetheless, a section of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party had warned Gachagua against visiting Raila’s home following Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga’s remarks.
