“There is someone who has given an offering for my birthday. Is it right?” he asked. Why did Pastor Ng’ang’a burn birthday gifts? As he spoke, church ushers carried several mannequins to the altar, dressed in silver dresses.

They then undressed the mannequins and showed them to the congregation.

“Is it right?” he asked, while also showing a bottle of liquor. He instructed the ushers to drop the mannequins on the floor.

“This is an abomination. This is the spirit of being loose. Whoever brought this, I don’t know them and don’t want to,” he added. Ng’ang’a said that the mannequins depicted women without clothes.

“Go crush this, then burn it,” he instructed the ushers. He then explained that some gifts are unbefitting for someone of his stature.

“There are some things you are not supposed to take to the altar. Yes, it’s a birthday, but there are things you cannot take to your father. “When going to give an offering, do not give an offering that has leprosy,” he said. The video elicited mixed reactions from social media users, with some claiming the incident was staged.

Others suggested that the mannequins should have been put to good use by donating them to those who sell clothes.

“Why can’t he give them to those selling clothes?” Why did Pastor Ng’ang’a almost reverse tithe? Pastor James Ng’ang’a spoke about his experience at Rhema Feast. Photos: Sasa TV and Rhema Feast

The preacher admitted that he was deeply moved by the warm reception he received, saying he never expected such an outpouring of love from Kenyans.

According to him, he had initially not been allowed to speak, but once he was called to the stage, the audience demanded that he sing, and the noise of their applause surprised even the event organisers.

Ng’ang’a said the highlight of the evening, however, came during the offering session when he mistakenly sent his tithe twice.

Without receiving an M-Pesa confirmation message, he assumed the first transaction had failed, so he sent another contribution of KSh 20,000.

Later, realising he had paid double, he considered asking for a refund. He narrated the incident with amusement, adding that his young wife had advised him to let it go, leaving the congregation laughing at his playful confession.
