KENYA: Photo: New Look of State House That Has Irked Kenyans

Source: Facebook Since he started occupying the house on the hill in his capacity as the head of state, President William Ruto embarked on making changes and renovations there.

It had been former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s base for nine years since 2013 when he took over from the late Mwai Kibaki.

The front compound had been tarmacked until recently when Ruto sanctioned the installation of cabro blocks.

A glimpse of the state house’s exterior was given on Friday, May 5, as the president played host to Olaf Scholz, the chancellor of Germany.

The naysayers find the new look as disgusting, and which ought to be changed.

Below are some of the reactions;

State House renovationsThe renovation of the state house started earlier this year, a move that left a section of Kenya unhappy.

According to the images that emerged online, the premise’s front courtyard, which initially had an asphalt surface, was fitted with grey cabros.

A source intimated to TUKO.co.ke said the State House field, which hosts a range of state events, also underwent a facelift.

The house on the hill’s new look elicited varied reactions on social media.

Some netizens opposed the move to replace the courtyard’s traditional tarmac surface with cabros saying the former is more durable.

Some questioned the urgency of renovating the house as it is being done amid tough economic times.

Mixed Reactions The renovations, which seemingly cost several million shillings, are against the austerity measures proclaimed by Ruto to cut the government’s expenditure.
