The Raila Amollo Odinga International Stadium has reached 85 per cent completion as Kenya ramps up preparations to co-host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has said.
Mvurya said the pace of construction shows Kenya’s readiness and ability, alongside its PAMOJA partner countries, to deliver a successful continental tournament in line with President William Ruto’s vision.
He spoke after inspecting the facility with Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya, where the two assessed the ongoing works at the stadium.
The Sports CS said the inspection team felt encouraged by the steady progress on site, noting that the contractor is working around the clock to finish external works and training facilities by the end of February. He added that completing these parts on schedule will allow auxiliary works to move forward smoothly in the next phase.
Mvurya also checked progress on seven other major projects considered vital to successfully hosting AFCON 2027.
He said all the projects have reached advanced stages of construction, showing steady momentum in Kenya’s tournament preparations.
The Sports CS added that the government has adopted a whole-of-government approach to guarantee full readiness for the continental event, as Kenya moves closer to preparatory meetings with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in the coming months.
