Kidnappers Demand ₦450 Million To Release Kwara Monarch, Others

Kidnappers have demanded the payment of a ₦450 million ransom for the release of a Kwara traditional ruler, the Oniwo of Aafin, Oba Simeon Olaonipekun, and others in their custody.

Naija News understand the kidnappers have demanded ₦150 million for the release of the king and his son, Olaolu, a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps, while ₦300 million has been demanded for the release of eight persons abducted in Adanla-Irese, a suburb of Igbaja.

According to a family source who spoke to Punch on the condition of anonymity, the abductors contacted the families of the victims on Friday.

“The kidnappers contacted the family this afternoon and told us to bring N150 million to secure the release of Kabiesi and his son.

“Since this incident happened, we have not been ourselves. We entered the new year with sorrow and tears. We are calling on the government and security agencies to come to our aid because we don’t know what to do,” the source said.

The Coordinator of the Kwara South Joint Community Security Watch Network, Elder Olaitan Oyin-Zubair, also confirmed the ransom demands.

“Yes, it is true. The bandits contacted the family this afternoon and demanded N150 million for the release of Kabiesi and his son. Only two days ago, N300 million was demanded for the release of the Adanla abductees,” he said.

It would be recalled that gunmen, suspected to be bandits, had on December 31, 2025, abducted the monarch and his son in the Ile-Ire district of Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The incident occurred at about 8:00 pm when the assailants reportedly stormed the palace in Aafin Ile-Ere, shooting sporadically and forcing their way inside after breaking down doors.

Reports have it that the attack threw the entire community into panic, as insecurity continues to worsen across Kwara South.

During the invasion, the Olori (queen consort), Felicia Olaonipekun, was shot in the arm but escaped being abducted. She was later rushed to a hospital for medical treatment.
