Ahmed Ododo has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi state.
The secretary of the Kogi APC primary election committee, Patrick Obahiagha, while making this known in Lokoja, the state capital, on Friday, April 14, said that Ododo secured 78,704 votes to defeat six other aspirants.
Obahiagha noted that Salami Momodu got 1,506 votes, Abubakar Yahaya-Ashemogu secured 1,159 votes, while Shaaibu Abubakar-Audu polled 763 votes.
He added that Stephen Ocheni garnered 552 votes, and Smart Adeyemi got 311 votes.
Obahiagha said that out of the 93,729 voters, 83,419 who were accredited, voted for candidates of their choice.
He said that, “Ododo, having scored the majority of the lawful votes cast at the direct primary election conducted on April 14, 2023, in Kogi state, is hereby declared the winner of the APC primary election 2023.
“Ahmed Usman-Ododo is hereby returned as the duly elected governorship candidate of APC for the November 2023 governorship election,” he added.
Obahiagha also congratulated the leaders and members of the party for the peaceful primary election.
The committee’s secretary also thanked the state governor, Yahaya Bello, for making the democratic process possible.
It is worth noting that Ododo, who is the preferred candidate of Governor Yahaya Bello, served as a former local government auditor-general in Kogi state.
