The development came during a statewide enforcement operation on Thursday.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, in a statement said the operation was part of the government’s daily clean-up and enforcement exercise.

He said the initiative was aimed at improving public safety and maintaining environmental standards across the state.

The commissioner stated that the exercise targeted street begging activities in different parts of Lagos.

According to him, such activities contribute to environmental degradation and public nuisance.

“In continuation of the ongoing daily clean-up and enforcement exercise across the state, a total of 226 beggars were apprehended today,” he said.

Wahab said the operation was conducted by a joint team of the two enforcement agencies.

He added that the apprehended persons would undergo profiling and documentation before repatriation.

The commissioner said they would be returned to their respective states of origin.

Wahab reiterated the state government’s commitment to sustaining enforcement operations.

He said the measures would help ensure a cleaner, safer and more organised Lagos. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
