Lamido Vows To Remain In PDP Despite Crisis

A founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Sule Lamido, has reaffirmed his loyalty to the party, declaring that he will not abandon it despite the internal challenges currently facing the opposition platform.

Lamido made the declaration on Saturday during a PDP stakeholders’ meeting in Dutse, Jigawa State, where party leaders gathered to deliberate on the party’s future amid growing internal disagreements and defections.

The former Jigawa State governor said the PDP remains his political home and insisted that its internal problems should not be a reason for members to leave.

“PDP is my political home. It may have problems, but it remains my home. I will not abandon it for another party,” Lamido said.

He warned that leaving the party because of its challenges would only weaken its chances of rebuilding.

Lamido also criticised prominent politicians who have recently defected to smaller political parties, warning that such moves could undermine political integrity.

According to him, abandoning the PDP during difficult times is similar to deserting one’s family when challenges arise.

“Leaving your home because it has challenges is not the solution,” he said.

He further alleged that some politicians who left the PDP are now attempting to dominate smaller political platforms, particularly the African Democratic Congress.

“They left their big home and now want to take over smaller parties built by others,” Lamido said.

The former governor emphasised that the PDP’s current challenges should be addressed through internal reforms and collective responsibility rather than defections.

He urged party members to remain committed to rebuilding the party and strengthening its structures ahead of future elections.

According to him, unity and dedication among members would help restore the party’s credibility.

Lamido also encouraged party loyalists to actively participate in the party’s ongoing processes and prepare for the 2027 general elections.

He called on members to revalidate their party membership online and ensure they are properly registered as voters.

He stressed that sustained commitment from party members would play a crucial role in restoring the PDP’s strength and competitiveness in the coming elections.
