‘Let Him Go To Court’ – PDP Official Dares Lamido Over Chairmanship Form

The crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a new twist on Monday after former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido , vowed to go to court over his failed bid to secure the nomination form for the post of national chairman.

Lamido’s protest came amid discontent within the party following the endorsement of former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), as consensus candidate ahead of the PDP national convention slated for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

But the party’s leadership swiftly dismissed Lamido’s outburst, insisting that it would not allow “disgruntled elements” to derail preparations for the convention.

Speaking with Daily Trust, PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, maintained that the opposition party was determined to stay focused on its rebuilding process.

Abdullahi said, “We are focused on moving forward and will not allow anyone or group to derail our progress.

“At the last NEC meeting, the date for the sale and submission of forms was announced. The deadline for submission was October 22. Anyone coming after that is simply engaging in drama.”

Abdullahi accused some members of working against the party’s interest and warned journalists not to amplify what he described as distractions.

He stated, “The northern leaders have taken a decision. Why is this one different? Let him (Lamido) go to court.

“If people are working for the APC or whoever their paymasters are, it’s enough. Let this PDP have a breather.”

Consensus Decision Defended
The PDP spokesman defended the process that produced Turaki as consensus candidate, stressing that it was in line with the party’s tradition of leadership choices being determined by governors and senior stakeholders.

“In the past, one person used to singlehandedly nominate chairmen. This time, four northern governors and several other party leaders came together to agree on one candidate. For those who have used this same system to their advantage in the past to now reject it, that’s hypocrisy,” he argued.

Abdullahi also dismissed Lamido’s appearance at the Wadata Plaza headquarters as a media gimmick, saying the forms were issued at the Legacy House.

“Nobody goes to the national secretariat to buy forms. That was just for media drama,” he added.
