LG Chair, House Member Deny Killings In Sokoto Mosque

The Chairman of Sabon Birni Local Government Area in Sokoto State, Ayuba Hashimu, has dismissed as “baseless and misleading” the viral social media reports alleging that gunmen stormed a mosque in the area and killed an Imam alongside worshippers. He said there was no such incident in Sabon Birni.

“There was no attack on any mosque. No Imam was killed. The entire story is false and misleading, we urge the public to disregard what he described as panic-inducing rumours”

Also a state lawmaker representing the constituency, Hon. Aminu Boza refuted the story, insisting that the claim had no connection to any event in the area.

According to him nothing of that nature happened on Saturday in the LGA, adding that they do not know where the claim originated and completely untrue

The clarification comes amid rising concerns over security in parts of Sokoto following separate attacks in Yabo Local Government Area, where suspected bandits invaded Alkalije village, killing five people, including a pregnant woman.

Alkalije, a border community under Kilgori District, shares boundaries with Kebbi State and has suffered repeated incursions by the notorious Lakurawa bandit groups.

Security agencies have yet to issue a formal statement on the Yabo incident, but residents say the attack occurred late Friday.
