Like APC, PDP decries conduct of Kano by-elections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State has condemned the conduct of the Bagwai/Shanono and Ghari/Tsanyawa state constituencies by-elections over alleged widespread irregularities and violence.

The party claimed the elections were marred by thuggery, with political thugs intimidating eligible voters and rendering the exercise ridiculous.

The PDP Chairman in the state, Alhaji Yusuf Kibiya, who addressed journalists on Saturday in Kano,  said the elections were “totally devoid of all democratic processes.”

He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to provide a level playing ground for all parties, saying the current state of affairs undermines the integrity of the electoral process.

He also implored security agencies to protect voters, uphold peaceful assembly, and deter intimidation and violence.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) had earlier condemned the elections for the same reasons.

The police on Saturday arrested 288 suspected thugs during the elections.
