Man accused of removing bones from corpse in Ibadan

The police in Oyo State on Thursday arraigned a 49-year-old man, Ibrahim Kazeem, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, over alleged misconduct regarding a corpse.

He was specifically accused of removing bones from the corpse for ritual purpose.

Kazeem, whose address was not provided, was charged with conspiracy and misconduct with regard to a corpse.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Insp. Elisha Tellang, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 13, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ibadan. 

Tellang alleged that the defendant and others, who remain at large, improperly and indecently interfered with a dead human body and removed the bones for money rituals.

He stated that the offences contravene Sections 242(1)(b) and 516 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Moyosore Atanda, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum. 

She adjourned the case until Feb. 24 for hearing. (NAN)
