Mbah’s wife distributes bags of fertilizers to farmers in Enugu

Gov. Peter Mbah’s wife, Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah, has distributed bags of fertilisers to registered farmers across 17 Council Areas of Enugu State to enhance their production and ensure food security in the state.

Distributing fertilisers on Wednesday in Enugu, Mbah said the gesture was part of her office’s empowerment initiative to support farmers by providing them with essential fertilisers needed to enhance their productivity.

She explained that the initiative was a collaborative effort of her office with the Enugu State Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation.

According to her, fertiliser is key in boosting crop yields, improving soil fertility, and ensuring that farmers grow healthier and more abundant harvests.

“By empowering you with these fertilisers, we are strengthening the entire agricultural sector in our state. Increased crop output means more food on our tables, higher incomes for our families, and a more robust economy for Enugu.

“This initiative clearly commits to ensuring food security within our state because when our farmers thrive, Enugu thrives.

“With enhanced production, we reduce the need for food imports, stabilise prices; and guarantee that no family goes hungry,” she said.

She commended the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Patrick Uburu, for his dedication to duty and persistent efforts in driving agricultural development across the state.

Mbah stated that visionary leadership had been instrumental in shaping policies and programmes that empower Enugu farmers and boost food production.

The governor’s wife equally thanked various stakeholders, development partners, and agricultural experts who had joined hands with them in actualising the initiative.

“Their support and expertise strengthen the foundation on which we build our agrarian programmes, ensuring that our farmers receive inputs, training, and technical assistance to maximise their productivity.

“It is not for storage or any purpose other than what it was intended for, which is for application to your farmland. I urge you to apply these fertilisers judiciously, with care and knowledge, to achieve the best possible results.

“Responsible use will maximise your yields and ensure this empowerment transforms your livelihood,” she advised.

In his speech, Ubru, represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, Mr Mike Ogbuewu, said the distribution aligned with the vision of Gov. Peter Mbah in ensuring food sufficiency in the state.

Ubru urged the governor to prioritise agriculture by making it attractive.
