Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) and Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have unveiled enhanced tactics to restore stability in the Lake Chad region, intensifying efforts to combat insurgency and terrorism.
This strategic shift was highlighted during a joint operational review in Baga, Borno, led by MNJTF Force Commander, Maj.-Gen. Godwin Mutkut, and OPHK Theatre Commander, Maj.-Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, according to a statement by OPHK Media Information Officer, Lt.-Col. Sani Uba, on Friday.
During the visit to Sector 3, OPHK, briefings from Brig.-Gen. Emmanuel Agada, Commander of the 403 Amphibious Brigade, and Commodore Peter Yilme, Commander of the Naval Base Lake Chad, outlined measures to safeguard waterways, boost economic activities, and restrict terrorist movements.

The session included key Component and Formation Commanders, senior staff officers, and Brig.-Gen. Suleiman Tilawan, Commander of Sector 3 OPHK.
Maj.-Gen. Mutkut stressed the importance of vigilant troop oversight, seamless coordination, and sustained alertness, noting, “The security of the Lake Chad Basin is a shared responsibility for all nations in the region.”
He urged commanders to maintain robust coordination to ensure regional stability.
Maj.-Gen. Abubakar praised the troops’ resilience and called for heightened alertness and professionalism, emphasizing the protection of local livelihoods.
“Safeguarding waterways is vital to supporting farming and fishing, which are lifelines for communities in the Lake Chad region,” he stated. He also directed commanders to prioritize troop welfare, optimize resource use, and improve communication to tackle operational challenges effectively.
