Founder of Coscharis Group, Cosmas Maduka , has addressed socialite Cubana Chief Priest amid the ongoing controversy over the popular phrase “money na water.”
In a WhatsApp message shared on Instagram by Stephen Akintayo, chairman of Gtext Homes, on Wednesday, Maduka clarified that he had no personal issue with Cubana Chief Priest and did not mention him in his earlier remarks about Nigeria’s value system.

His words …
“I have just discovered also the above, even though I never met him nor attended any of his events, and if I did, I cannot remember. I never had him in mind when I said what I believed was a wrong value system we have embraced. I respect his views because he is entitled to his opinion, and I wish him the best of life. May God bless him.”
Cosmas Maduka criticizes ‘Money na Water’ phrase
The clarification came after widespread reactions to a viral video in which Maduka criticised the culture of flaunting wealth and discouraged the use of the phrase “money na water.”
In the clip, he stated that he had never encountered a genuinely wealthy person who used such expressions, urging Nigerians to embrace modesty and discipline in financial matters.

His comments were, however, widely interpreted as a subtle jab at Cubana Chief Priest, who popularised the slogan to symbolise abundance and affluence.
Cubana Chief Priest claps back
Responding via his Instagram stories, Cubana Chief Priest argued that Maduka’s views were outdated , stressing that in today’s digital economy, attention and visibility have replaced traditional capital as the new measure of wealth.
He explained that while Maduka’s generation focused on building factories and physical assets, the modern generation thrives on digital relevance, where “visibility is the new currency” and “content is digital equity, not noise.”
