A devastating building collapse occurred in Dankama Local Government Area of Katsina State during a heavy downpour around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, claiming the lives of six family members.
The victims were asleep when the building collapsed, resulting in the deaths of Mariya Sani, 45, and her five children: Mujahid, 20; Zahariya, 18; Hauwa, 15; Amira; and Nura Sani, aged five.
It was learnt that Muhammad Sani, the husband and father of the deceased, was away when the incident happened.
The tragedy has triggered widespread grief in the Dankama community, with many sympathizers visiting the family’s home to offer condolences and support.
“I surrender to Allah’s will. May He grant them eternal rest,” Sani said, expressing his acceptance of the tragedy.
“This affected about 10 people, but sadly six didn’t survive. Three are currently receiving treatment in hospital,” Muhammad Sani told journalists.
Three others were rushed to the hospital with varying degrees of injury, according to NAN reports.
Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary of Katsina State Emergency Management Agency, Hajiya Binta Dangani, has confirmed the incident and dispatched officials to condole the family and assess damages.
