I dated my wife distantly for two years before we got married. After marriage, I tried all I could to get her a job where I was so she could be with me and begin a family where the two of us lived under the same roof. She wrote applications here and there. When I found a job online that I thought she could fit, I sent the link to her. That aside, I talked to my friends about the situation, just in case they had an opening where they worked.

Johnson called one morning to tell me he could help, so I should let my wife send her CV. I met Johnson at university and at one point started a business together while in school, but the business didn’t work out. We completed school and he became a manager of his father’s company. It’s a very big company for that matter.

When he called me saying he could help, I knew my prayer had been answered. I called my wife and asked her to send her CV. I gave Johnson’s number to her to take it from there. When she sent the CV, she told me. I called Johnson to tell him my wife said she had sent it.

A week or so later, he called my wife for an interview. My wife went for the interview. According to my wife, Johnson was part of the panel who did the interview. I told her then she had won the position already.

From there, my wife didn’t say much about the job again. When I asked Johnson, he told me I shouldn’t worry as he would work things out. When I asked my wife if she had received any call, she told me she was talking to Johnson. It dragged until two months later when my wife got the job. I was so happy I bought hampers and some other stuff, met Johnson at his house, and gave the gifts to him.

My wife finally resigned and came to live with me. My dream was finally achieved. I could sleep next to my wife and wake up next to her without worrying that she would leave the next day. We could plan life together, go out together, sit and talk all night like married couples usually do.

One day she asked me, “What are you guys up to? I mean you and Johnson?” I threw the question back at her, “What do you mean? What’s going on?” She looked at me quizzically and later said, “It’s alright.” I didn’t buy the answer. I pushed her to the wall before she told me Johnson had been assigning her roles she felt my hand was in it because it didn’t feel normal. It was like Johnson and I were testing her.

My wife came home very late. She said it was because of the job. On Saturdays, she had to go to work even though it wasn’t part of her contract. She even had to come home with work sometimes. I was worried but I didn’t also want to behave like the husband who was overly interested in his wife’s office affairs, so I held myself from talking to Johnson about it.

It continued for over a year until my wife told me she wanted to resign from work because it was too much. She was always tired and became quick-tempered. I didn’t know my wife to be that girl who got angry without talking about what made her angry. I encouraged her not to resign but rather look for another job first. Her salary was even better than mine, so losing such a job to stay in the house before getting another job got me scared.

My wife was on leave but a week later she was called back to work again. When she told me, it didn’t sit well with me. I thought she was lying or using office situations for her own personal agenda. I called Johnson to ask what was going on, and he told me it was true but he wasn’t responsible for that decision. I said, “It looks like your place is very demanding, looking at the time she comes home.” Boy, oh boy. We only talked about it superficially and ended up laughing about it.

A month later, my wife came home and told me she had resigned from work. I screamed, “What? But that wasn’t what we agreed on. Why didn’t you tell me about it?” She answered, “You wouldn’t understand.”

To be honest, I was angry with her so I started giving her the cold treatment. I would come from work to see her in the house and I would immediately flare up. I think that was what pushed her to come out with the truth. She said, “Johnson wanted to sleep with me.”

I stood still. “Are you looking for excuses to give for that bad decision you took?” She said, “You see why I didn’t tell you anything? I knew you wouldn’t believe me. It’s fine.”

So Johnson started pursuing her when she went for the interview. After the interview, Johnson invited my wife to his office and started making advances toward her as if he didn’t know she was my wife. When my wife asked if he knew we were married, he told her he wasn’t aware and that didn’t change the fact that she was a beautiful woman.

She said Johnson asked her specifically what she would give to win the position. And she answered she didn’t mind giving away her two months’ salary. Johnson replied, “Do I look like I need your money?” According to my wife, it was that day she asked me, “What are you guys up to? I mean you and Johnson?”

My heart was boiling. I screamed, “Did he touch you?” She shook her head and said, “It doesn’t matter. I’m no longer there.” I said, “It matters so talk. Did he do anything you have evidence for?” She answered, “He tried but I didn’t give him access. It was the reason he gave me a lot of work. He came to hate me when he realized I wasn’t going to play that game with him.”

She asked me not to do anything, but you can’t beat a man this way and ask him not to cry, so I called Johnson right there and asked him what happened. He said, “So you believe these lies? Ask her to show you evidence. She was just being lazy and didn’t want to be corrected. She resigned because she thought I was on her. But I needed the work done.”

How The Death Of Our Son Nearly Brought Our Marriage To An End

The messages he sent my wife were not in plain words. He knew what he was doing so he was careful. I believe my wife. There were traces in the way he talked to her. He tried to be ambiguous so it wouldn’t be easy to decode his intentions. He’s not someone I call a friend now because obviously, he doesn’t respect brotherhood. But it doesn’t end here. I know how to get at him, and he would be shocked for the rest of his life.
