NADECO Group Insists No Going Back On May 29 Handover

• Urges anti-democratic forces to have rethink • Pro-democracy groups to partner with president-elect to actualise mandate • Kick against interim government The National Democratic Coalition Renewal Group (NADECORG) has warned anti-democratic forces bent on truncating May 29 handover of power to the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to have a rethink. It said no amount of threat would stop the handover, and that swearing in of the President-elect is sacrosanct. The group, in a statement signed by its National Secretary, Dr. Afolabi Taiwo and National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Adelani Tijani, in Ado-Ekiti, yesterday, lauded security forces for their timely response to enemies of democracy who are determined to take Nigeria back to bondage. It, therefore, urged well-meaning Nigerians to be vigilant and resist any attempt by aggrieved politicians and their cohorts to drag the country back to another tragic political era of undemocratic rule. It also called on those fanning the embers of violence and instability to beware, as their evil plots have been exposed, adding that Nigeria’s Constitution has given ample opportunity to any aggrieved politician to seek redress in court, and the process is currently ongoing in various tribunals across the country. The statement reads in part: “We urge the people not to allow some selfish, greedy and unpatriotic elements, who place their selfish interests above the popular and patriotic interests of the nation, to truncate the transition process and plunge the nation into chaos.” NADECORG, however, urged Tinubu not to be distracted by the activities of antidemocratic forces, asking him to remain focused on the task of rebuilding the country and putting smiles on the faces of Nigerians. In the same vein, the Coalition of Pro-Democracy Groups for A Better Nigeria is set to partner with Tinubu to help him actualise his mandate. A statement by National Co-ordinator of the coalition, Awa Bamiji, said the Tinubu Mandate Protection World Press Conference became necessary, owing to opposition parties’ call for cancellation of the 2023 presidential election. “The second edition of Tinubu Mandate Protection World Press Conference has been changed to Tinubu Mandate Actualisation World Press Conference simply because after the triumph of Asiwaju in the presidential election, the opposition demanded cancellation of the election and introduction of an Interim Government,” he said. He said the conference would now hold on Saturday, May 27, 2023, instead of Tuesday, May 9, 2023, after a thorough debate at various levels by key stakeholders within and outside Nigeria.
