Speaking to Tuko.co.ke, Peter Ngetich, a village elder at Chepkinoiyo village, said that the Grade 3 girl had gone to a nearby church for a youth camp, where she arrived late at home.
He said that when the girl reached home, her mother questioned her why she came home late, yet she was supposed to have arrived earlier to help with the domestic chores as the firstborn.
“She tied the girl with ropes and started to whip her before using a hot knife to inflict injuries in her body. The girl told us that she even bit her back and continued the punishment until 1am when they untied her,” he said. Following the arrest of the woman, several leaders extended their support to the girl and her younger siblings to cope with the situation.
