The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) former Vice President, John Aikpokpo-Martins, has commended the NBA’s 3rd Vice President, Zainab Aminu Garba, for her recent visit to the Yelwata Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Makurdi, Benue State.

In a statement made available to BarristerNG following the visit, Aikpokpo-Martins expressed heartfelt appreciation to the 3rd Vice President for her compassionate outreach, describing it as a powerful display of leadership and empathy towards Nigeria’s most vulnerable citizens. Accompanied by branch chairmen and other NBA members, Zainab Garba’s presence at the camp, he noted, demonstrates the Association’s deep concern for the plight of displaced persons and its commitment to justice beyond the courtroom.

“The 3rd Vice President’s visit reflects the NBA’s values of justice, rule of law, and social welfare. Her concern over the appalling conditions at the camp shows that the Association is not only aware but willing to act in defense of the voiceless,” he stated.

He further emphasized that the visit has renewed hope among the IDPs and called on the NBA and government authorities to take further action to improve living conditions and ensure lasting security in the region.

“This initiative proves that the NBA has the capacity to intervene meaningfully in matters affecting the vulnerable. Thank you, Zainab Garba, for representing the Association with such grace, empathy, and purpose,” he added.

Aikpokpo-Martins concluded with a call for continued advocacy and intervention, stressing that the welfare of displaced persons must remain a national priority.
